Plein Air Classes with John W. Bond
About the teacher:
John W. Bond has been teaching Art for over 29 years. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education from Appalachian State University and did his graduate work at Colorado State University. He has had the opportunity to study painting and drawing in Italy and has exhibited his photography work from Africa. John teaches all of his students in an individual manner and in the medium of their choice, in order to bring out their own artistic voice. John's overriding philosophy is one of The Gestalt (to treat the image and the process of making art as a whole), thus easing decision making, anticipating problem areas, and preventing drastic changes to one's work. His love of the natural world and years of teaching observations bring a unique perspective to the education of his students.
About the class:
Come enjoy a unique opportunity to make art in the two dimensional medium of your choice at Springhouse Farm with instruction from local artist and educator John W. Bond. Springhouse Farm offers beautiful views for traditional plein air landscapes and the additional chance to pick and arrange your own still life set up. This class will offer both choices to the participants as well as your choice of medium, ie: oils, acrylics, water colors, pastels, inks, graphite and charcoal. In this class participants will concentrate on:
1. How to build a painting by using mass color tones to block in and name your composition.
2. Solving color challenges to create harmony in your work.
3. Capturing evening light and shadow to bring your work to life.
The four hour class will be divided into two 2hr. long sessions with an hour and a half break.(2:30-4:30 then 1.5 hr break then 6:00-8:00 finish). As the medium is up to the student we suggest you bring everything you think you will need to create, as well as easels and camp chairs or stools. John will bring extra supplies to fill in some gaps you might have and the built-in break will give you an opportunity to shop for what you need to finish your painting. It is also recommended to bring a camera or cell phone for photos and in process documentation.
