FARM INTERNSHIPS *Our 2026 internship is Full*

We offer a limited number of part-time and full-time farm internships April through October.

INTERNSHIPS AT SPRINGHOUSE

We are a female-owned, diverse 8 acre farm, entering our 18th year of production. We focus on using sustainable growing methods to produce our vegetables and flowers, and we connect with our local community through different agritourism events such as Farm Tours, You Pick Flowers, Farm to Table Dinners and Field Trips. You will split your time evenly between two lead farmers - one who focuses on soil health and vegetable production and the other who focuses on Agritourism and cut flower production. Every year on the farm brings new successes and failures, new challenges and rewards; flexibility is key to success on our farm.

This might be the perfect Internship for you if you like to work outside, meet new people, and get your hands dirty. Farming is a learning experience for everyone involved. We ask you for your commitment, communication and willingness to learn new things. In exchange, we will provide the opportunity to learn how to grow vegetables, herbs, fruit and flowers, run a successful small farm business, and interact with amazing people in a beautiful outdoor setting.

FARM INTERN DUTIES

The following list is a broad array of things you will learn to do on our farm as an Intern. Instruction will be given in all areas. We give Interns experience in as many areas as possible, and we promote the benefits of doing tasks repeatedly so that you become comfortable with them.

  • Planting - direct seeding or transplanting, working in the greenhouse.

  • Caretaking - weeding and feeding crops, deadheading flowers.

  • Holistic pest and disease management.

  • Harvesting - vegetables and flowers, includes proper post-harvest protocol.

  • Maintenance and use of tools and other farm implements.

  • Delivery of vegetables and flowers to our primary markets including: 2 workplace CSA’s, Watauga County Farmers Market, High Country Food Hub, Earth Fare, local restaurants and our honor-based Farm Stand.

  • Helping at our Saturday farmers market booth and Agritourism events on a rotational basis.

YOUR DAYS ON THE FARM

In the height of the season, our farm runs from 8 am - 4 pm, Monday - Thursday, with Agritourism events Friday-Sunday. Each Intern’s schedule will be different, and you have the option to work our Agritourism events for additional income.

  • We begin our mornings by gathering in the barn and going over what we need to do for the day. No two days are quite the same: one day you’ll be planting broccoli and the next pulling weeds or harvesting flowers.

  • We meet for lunch in our covered Pavilion from 12-1 pm (you’re welcome to bring your hammock). Don’t forget your water bottle, SPF protection and a hat! We also recommend investing in a waterproof pair of work boots.

  • Intern positions come with a stipend - more information provided after application is submitted.
